José got his Philosophy Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Accounting from The University of Texas. Edinburg, Texas, USA. Before obtaining his Ph.D., José obtained his bachelor in Accounting and Auditing from the Universidad de Talca and his specialization´s degree in Computer Auditing from the University of Chile, both of them in Chile.
José is Director and Professor of the School of Public Accountant and Auditor in the College of Social and Economic Sciences of the Catholic University of Maule, Talca, Chile, since April 2021. Before that, he worked at the University of Talca, Chile from 1994 to 2021, and among other positions, he was Dean of the College of Economics and Business, Director of the School of Audit and Engineering in Management Control, Director of the Post-Graduate School and Director of the Center for Accounting Research and Studies in the same College. Before working as academic, he was Manager at Ernst & Young in Santiago of Chile.
José is member of the Auditing Standards Committee of the Chilean Association of Accountants, member and former Secretary of the Inter-American Technical Accounting Research Committee of the Inter-American Accounting Association (IAA). He belongs to 18 research groups at universities in Central and South America, highlighting his participation in the Research Group on Citizen Participation and Development of Mechanisms against Corruption (GIPAMCO), and to the Research Network on Economic, Administrative and Accounting Sciences, REDICEAC, both from the Universidad del Valle, Cali, Colombia.
In Academia, José is member of the editorial committee of 15 professional journals related to Business and Accounting, and he has authored and co-authored 10 books on Auditing, and authored and co-authored more than 60 scientific and professional research papers on accounting, auditing and accounting education.
