Alex is both a Certified Public Accountant and lawyer. He is the President of Isla Lipana & Co. Foundation, an organisation focused on social initiatives for schools, underprivileged students, and indigenous communities.

He is also the Chairman Emeritus of PwC Philippines and served as Chairman and Senior Partner for eight years. He leads the firm’s Environment, Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) practice and co-leads the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions practice. He is the founding partner of the law firm Cabrera & Company, a member firm of the PwC network.

Alex is a member of the Higher Education & Teacher Education Development Committee of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM2), a joint educational body tasked with solving the education crisis. He is also a Board Adviser of the Philippine Business for Education, a non-profit organisation advocating for education reforms.

Alex is the Chairman of Integrity Initiative, Inc., a private sector-led movement to fight against graft and corruption. He is the Vice Chairperson of Justice Reform Initiative, an organization that advocates for reforms in the judiciary. Alex is also the Vice Chair of ARISE-Philippines, an NGO focused on disaster risk management, and a member of the Finance Board of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila.

Alex was one of the recipients of the Accountancy Centenary Award of Excellence given by the Professional Regulatory Board of Accountancy early last year. He was awarded the prestigious Honorary Life Member title by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in 2020. He has been named CEO of the Year at the Asia Leaders Awards 2019. PICPA previously granted him the Outstanding CPA in Public Practice Award in 2015 and the Young Achiever in Public Practice Award in 1998.
